Stitch Fix got me again

So Stitch Fix sent me another free styling fix and I took them up on it. I had mentioned I was pregnant to my stylist, and was almost stupidly surprised to see all my choices were maternity. I guess that makes sense tho, haha, enjoy those clothes that are too small!

at this point my baby belly hasn't really made these shirts necessary, or able to see what they should look like, so enter my friend the balled up towel for viewing purposes

Doug and I both really liked this coral color

and I liked this light blue shirt with the lacy detail

and this light grey 3/4 sleeved top with tiny pink stripes.

All with the denim rolled cuff shorts.

I had decided to keep the shorts because I had looked a lot for shorts and couldn't find anything that fit well. But the next day I made one more Salvation Army attempt to find some and found some. And for $5 how could I keep the $54 ones?? Not this thrify girl. In the end I only kept the last grey/pink shirt. I am a sucker for grey and stripes. Doug encouraged me to keep the coral or blue top as well, but I had just ordered stuff from Old Navy in similar colors but 1/3 the price, so I didn't keep anything else.

Anyway, got me again Stitch Fix, but I feel ok about it since they also keep occasionally sending me the free styling fee, so no loss!

day off

This morning, after raking the last bits of leaves and picking up branches down after the heavy snow I went and got a massage.

As someone who went to school for massage, I don't know why I get one so rarely. Like less than once a year (not counting the lovely backrubs from my sweet husband).

Where the magic happened.

It felt wonderful and I tried hard to relax. I don't know if anyone else is like this, during massages I find myself constantly wondering what the therapist is going to do next and how many more minutes I have left. But I tried not to think of it and just take deep breaths. There was one part where after getting stuffy/congested from my face being down in that little hole, he flipped me over and put a wash cloth with peppermint on my face to clear the sinuses. And he made some joke like "it's just oil, don't worry I'm not going to knock you out with chlorophyll." Which of course is what a leaf uses to complete photosynthesis and he meant chloroform the anesthetic. Anyway, I didn't correct him and then I felt like I should have because what if this is his famous joke he makes every massage?? He should know he's using the wrong word. By the time I thought about all this it would have been super awkward to be like "hey remember your joke from 10 minutes ago?..." Anyway, it was a great massage and the peppermint oil really did clear me up. He kept calling me 'your highness' which was unnecessary of course, but it did contribute to the feeling of being pampered, haha.

I came home and saw another StitchFix box waiting for me.

Yes. I've already posted two 'last Stitch Fix' blog posts. But I think Thanksgiving-ish they sent me a letter like we're thankful for our customers, here's a free styling fee! That way there is no $ spent if I don't like it. And they finally got me.

I actually liked the jeans they sent me too, but those were almost $80. So no. Even this sweater was $48, which is hard for me to spend that much. Doug talked me into it. And then when I hit the check out button, I forgot if you keep something (since I have never kept anything), they deduct the styling fee of $20, but since that was a gift to me anyway it was $20 cheaper. Even better!

The rest of the day we are going to head over to the library to get a card for me. My old one finally expired and now I'm in the poor county. Sad! And I have an afternoon of painting doors ahead of me. Noooooo! But it needs to be done. Then double date tonight with Josh and meeting his girlfriend. He's finally moving out next week. It hasn't been bad at all actually, but I'm looking forward to being able to use the spare room again, all our stuff has been piled in the one room and making things feel cluttery. So that will be good. Then I'm working the weekend.

seriously, the last Stitch Fix

So after my last order I complained that I felt they had not sent me stuff in accordance with my preferences, setting me up to fail, and I asked for the styling fee to be refunded. (you pay a $20 styling fee each time even if you don't keep anything). They said they never refund those, but offered to send me one more box without the styling fee, so why not. Again I decided not to keep anything, but it was closer this time:

I liked the stripes, but a little too drapey in the front, and it came with a stain! bummer.

This I did like, even with the arm 'wings' but it was $48 and I couldn't do it. It was nice soft material and I liked the styling card that went with it. Maybe I can find something similar at Marshalls for like $20

So yes, no more Stitch Fix, but it was a kinda fun short lived try.

Last night we had Liz and Mark over for dinner, grilled for them, then headed down to the dream cruise. It doesn't officially start till Saturday, but there were so many cool/old/interesting cars to look at. Doug really wanted to go and it was fun to sit out with friends.

Today we are off for a matinee of the new Mission Impossible, then more work on the bathroom before Doug's parents come for dinner. Fun day!

second and last Stitch Fix

I got my second Stitch Fix, and it will be my last.

This time I liked some of the patterns, and she did send me stuff that was under $50 each, but the cuts were just not right, and I had specifically asked for certain cuts and she didn't listen.

I really enjoy seeing other people's Stitch Fixes, but it just isn't for me I guess.

super loose around the middle, and I'm sorry but $40 for a tank top?? never

see-thru and frumpy. I can't really do the button down without bust darts, it just doesn't fit right

Alas. Well I think it was worth a try, but I'll stick to Marshalls and my Salvation Army finds. Maybe it did inspire me to look more at fun patterns instead of just some basic colors, but Stitch Fix is just not for me.

My first (and maybe last) fix

So I took the plunge and joined Stitch Fix, I thought it would be fun to be 'styled' and I keep reading about other blog girls that were doing it and seeing their cute fixes. So you log on, make a profile, and tell your stylist what you like and you rate a bunch of outfits on their website so they get a feel for your tastes. Anyway, I've been so excited and today it finally came

The mail lady came just as Doug and I were headed out for a Saturday of farmer's market shopping and bike riding. I ripped it open for a peek before we headed out.

Fun, bright colors- such promise!

I had told my stylist that I wanted a little help in the wardrobe department, but that I am a salvation army girl at heart and it would be hard for me to keep anything in my box over $40. They made it seem like there was a wide price range of items for every budget. How it works is you can pick the categories of clothes you want, I chose 'date night' and 'casual' since I always wear scrubs to work and don't need anymore business casual. I told her we were going to Alaska soon and maybe some trendy travel outfit would be nice. Anyway, this was my fix:

out of everything, I think I liked these dark navy skinny jeans the best. But when I saw the price $98, um nevermind.

The shirt was kind of pretty, but sheer and a bit sack-like. And $50.

This shirt had such a fun pattern, but so frumpy. I can't spend $40 on a polyester shirt made in China. Stuff like that is at Marshalls all the time for $12.

Those big drapey cardigans don't look good on me, I like the color, but another $50 no.

My last item was this 'date night' dress. I liked how it looked in the back

But I didn't like the pleats, Doug didn't like it at all either. Plus I would have thought of a more fun color for spring/summer

So off all of it goes back. If you keep nothing you just pay a $20 styling fee. So it's not risk free, but it's not crazy either. I think I might give feedback on the site to my stylist and try one more time. I like the cute outfit idea cards they give you

and I really like the marketing too honestly. My card was like "Anne, these classic skinny jeans are perfect as you're walking around in Alaska and cover up with this cardigan when it gets cold"

And I like the idea of someone trending up my wardrobe a little and encouraging me to try new stuff. I guess this is as close as it's going to get since I don't live with Jill anymore and don't have her stream of fashionable outfits to try to copy off of ;)
