Snow much fun!

We finally had a sunny day in Michigan! Got everybody in warm gear and went out to get some sunshine.

It may look like Jeanie is smiling, but no, she does not like sled rides.

August had fun playing in his little playhouse.

Pretty girl. But otherwise, she pretty much just stood still and looked around, eventually poking some snow, or she wanted to be on my lap on the porch while we watched brother play.

The snow wasn't quite right for a snowman, but we tried.

Yum!

And inside for some warm yummy cocoa.

Doug started having man-friend playdates on the weekends when I'm at work, so this past weekend he had his friend Josh and his daughter Tori over to play.

This girl loves putting on other people's hats :) and so cute!

Then they got bundled again and out to play.

Fun!!!

snowboarding

My friend told me about a deal that several ski resorts in Michigan partnered with McDonalds to get people out doing winter sports. An hour lesson skiing or snowboarding, equipment rental, and lift ticket for $35. What a steal!! I have asked Doug almost every winter to go snowboard with me and he always told me the same thing "I can't turn left", so I signed us up for the lesson so we could move past that :)

I learned to snowboard years ago out in Colorado by an old friend/boyfriend that I would always date when I was out babysitting for a wealthy family who had a house in Aspen, anyway, long story, but needless to say I hadn't been snowboarding in 5+ years so the lesson wasn't wasted on me.

It was snowing, but wasn't super cold, it was beautiful!

Turns out we had a couple friend out that evening too so met up with them for a couple minutes. It was a fun evening. We didn't stay too long because we had to pick up the kiddos from Doug's parents, but I was glad we could go.

Then this week I saw on facebook that Mickey Mouse was coming to a local bar and grill. A couple friends had been wanting to meet up for dinner so we met there. It was pretty much a guy dressed up like Mickey Mouse making rounds to the tables but it was pretty neat. I don't know why, but August LOVES Mickey Mouse. For the past year or so he spots him wherever we go, on the Huggies diapers, on a cereal box, on other kids' clothes, on the top of someone's car antenna. So I thought that would be fun. He came and visited our table 3 times.

Dinner with our friends and seeing Mickey Mouse and saved hundreds by not going to Disney, priceless! :)

snow day

The other night we got 8 inches of beautiful snow. Doug made it off to work ok in the Jeep and me and August are still home. Yesterday I get a knock on the door and it's the UPS man dropping off a package. A few minutes later I hear some commotion and then another knock, it's the UPS man apologizing that he bumped our mailbox and moved it. No big deal, our mailbox isn't set in the ground, it's in a big ugly pot that I'd like Doug to replace anyway. So I ask if he's stuck and he says no and goes to drive away. Soon I hear much more commotion as now he is stuck in the ditch in our front yard.
Poor guy!
He tried several times to get out but couldn't. Eventually I came out in my snowpants with a shovel, but what can I really do to get a 2 ton truck out of a ditch!? He had already called the tow truck and didn't need to come wait in the house.
Anyway, they got him out and now we are the owners of these huge lawn ruts.
My neighbor stopped by today to tell me she'd taken pictures of the truck because she didn't know if I knew who did it or not. That was thoughtful! Can you imagine coming home to that and no explanation?! Anyway, poor guy, probably made him so behind in his day.
We had a nice toasty day inside and then later when the roads were all cleared went to book club. We read "A Man Called Ove" this time and it was so good!
While we were gone Doug spent hours building a fort around his firepit.
Hard to see in the picture with the white snow, but 2-3 foot walls off the corners of the deck, his dream is to make like a huge igloo around it. We'll see, of course wife Debbie Downer was asking why spend all that time when it's supposed to warm back up. But boys will be boys :) I have to admit a huge igloo with a firepit inside would be pretty cool. Get building!

snow day

Who thinks of these little snow sayings? Last year was Snomageddon, this year Snow-my-gosh. Haha, this made me laugh
Luckily all I had to do was go to the doctor this morning, and they called me to say they weren't even going to try to attempt to make it in, so I got to stay in too. Well then I spent 45 minutes shoveling the driveway, ahhh, homeownership.
September was unfazed
What, 3rd highest snowfall in Detroit history? That ain't no thing, I got fur!
