Dexter
I got to see one of my favorite guys last night...
I probably should not watch this show. It's full of lies, sex, swearing, and lets not forget how he is a serial killer. But it's just so good!
And then to further illustrate how this show is probably not that good for me, this google image popped up:
Haha, but seriously, touché Holy Spirit, good job convicting me.
About a year ago I was really feeling that God was putting that verse on my heart, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." (Philippians 4:8) I went through all our movies and got rid of a bunch of the Rs and a lot of Andrew's druggie/horror/scary movies. I was ruthless- but it was for our own good. The bible talks a lot about our hearts. Protecting them. Guarding them. "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." (Proverbs 4:23) What is in our hearts determines our lives, "A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." (Luke 6:45) I want good in my heart.
Last night I went to my friend Liz's to watch said program. I came over late because I had my second divorce class after work. (In a moment of recovering weakness a few months ago I signed up for another divorce class! So now I'm overlapping for a bit, but so far, I like this one too, so we'll see) Anyway, it was late when I got there. My poor friend had been trying to back her new trailer for her food business into the driveway for the last 20 minutes and I could tell she was about to crack. So I went in and helped make dinner while her husband helped with the truck. I sorted the recycling, put away dishes, put things back onto shelves, cleaned up. It was nice to be able to help her. So then we had a very late (11pm!) dinner of Elk Lasagne. Pretty tasty actually. And then after the show I went home and straight to bed!

I am right there with you and the Holy Spirit convicting. Garth and I were watching "Breaking Bad" but it was just sooo violent and the language was bad and their was sex and not to mention all the drug dealing. I just could not help but feel SO convicted that we stopped watching.
ReplyDeleteWait... what! After all those verses and about how you're convicted, then next I read, "then after we watched the show." !! So were you really not too convicted?
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time with that too. With the show Breaking Bad, I watched a few episodes before realizing it, and Dexter too. It helps that those shows will scare Michelle so it's another incentive to just not watch them. Did Sex and the City episodes survive the DVD raid? :P
well I've always had a nagging feeling about that show. But we watched first, felt convicted later in this instance.
ReplyDeleteThe Sex and the Cities did not survive the raid. (Sorry Eliz and Michelle's generous bday/xmas gifts that I asked for for years.) I did watch them all, but then I felt it was fair if I got rid of some stuff too. Some of those were pretty bad! But I did get myself another gift from the craigslist money :)
