things I'm liking lately

Yeaaaahhh... so haven't woken up any earlier at all. I guess I'm liking sleeping in. But I'm shooting for May 1st - back on track! Since I am a 1st birthday, I always count the passing of life on the 1st. So May 1st I will be 30 and 3/4 and it will be time to get back on with normal life. I just finished the book
I liked it. It was a care package gift from my thoughtful sister. I brought it up to my book club as an idea but it was quickly shot down, haha. They were like 'a dog dreams about racing?!? - No!!!' That's not quite what it was about, but I really liked it. There was a funny part about the dog getting revenge on his owners in-laws. In general the book made me miss our sweet old dog Harmony.
When my friend Jill visited last week she showed me a game on her ipod touch
Each level you have to figure out how to open the door and move to the next level. So fun! I was super close to getting an ipod just to play this game. Until I reached level 35 and won the game, wah wah. They need thousands more levels. But I really love those maze games, fun. I don't want to be one of those people though that are constantly doing something on their phone, so it is good to keep resisting!
Tonight I'm meeting up with a friend and her husband at a Kid Rock's resteraunt. I'm excited. Not about the Kid Rock part, but going out to dinner sounds so nice. Mmmm. I checked out the menu online and they have fried pickles, my fave! I guess people rave about the mac and cheese at this place, but I'm more a burger girl or pulled chicken sandwich, so we'll see. My stomach is growling just thinking about it!

lazy bones

Oh my gosh - I NEED to start actually getting out of bed when my alarm clock goes off. I am just so unmotivated lately. I hardly ever do my morning workout anymore. This morning I 'snoozed' for a whole hour. Then I was running late. I took a quick shower with my hair in a shower cap because no time to dry it and figured the pony tail would be just fine. But my hair just felt so heavy. So at work, after I brushed my teeth at the sink, I washed my bangs with hand soap and squatted under the hand dryer to dry them. I felt like a homeless person. I don't know how to do it- but I need to get motivated again!

Visit from Kentucky Jill

My friend Jill came to visit me this weekend. Actually Wednesday night through Sunday. My boss was nice enough to let me have Thursday and Friday off and we had a great time together. (I call her Kentucky Jill because I have another friend Jill and people didn't know which one I was referring to. She's not a country bumpkin or anything!) Our visit was really relaxing. We slept in, watched Ellen, exercised together and then did whatever. She came to book club with me, we Salvation Army shopped, visited a friend at work and walked around Detroit, watched movies, walked, hung out at a friend's, went to church, went and had lunch with my parents, good times.

me with my target (that's not the real gun I used, the gun store guy thought it'd be funny to pose me with a $15k machine gun!) I'm so thankful that God has blessed me with such good friends. "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" Office Thief

I swear this attorney at my office is stealing my peanut butter. I keep a jar of natural pb in the fridge and a bag of bran muffins in the freezer for quick workday snacks. And I can tell the pb level is lowering day by day and I haven't even eaten any in awhile. It bugs me! I hate to be a huge cheapskate, but seriously it is getting more and more expensive plus I just don't feel like I need to be supplying food for everyone. I'm pretty sure I know who it is. Once I was at the table eating lunch and she wanders in and dug into my baggie of carrots and started eating them while she was reading the newspaper. Um. Help yourself?

Yes, I have stolen the occasional office supply, but stealing someone elses food is just wrong :)

So last night I went over to my friend's house. We went for a beautiful walk and came home and made dinner. They usually eat pretty late so by the time of actual dinner at 8:30 I had already been snacking a lot, and was so hungry, I left just completely stuffed. It was good, but I do prefer a bit of an earlier eating time so I'm not ravenous by the time I actually eat!

I wanted to make those lemon chia seed muffins while I was there to show her how good they were. It turned into a bit of a bigger job than I thought. First we had to mill flour because she doensn't eat much of it. So we milled rice, spelt and added some tapioca flour. Then she didn't have any applesauce so we had to make that too. So a few extra steps. I didn't like our flour mix, it tasted kind of heavy and grainy, but the muffins were still pretty good and I got a text this morning saying that I was right and they were even better cold :) Yum!

Fast is Over

Well the fast was over on Easter. So what did I eat Easter morning?

and

Sigh.

I can tell I have a serious sugar addiction. That was what I missed the most by far on the fast. So it's probably a good idea to avoid it from time to time. And altho I did like eating both those things again, they really weren't as good as my brain thought they'd be. Healthy stuff really is much more satisfying.

I've still been making some daniel fast friendly meals as I clear out the fridge this week. Last night I made blackened tofu. Neither of us liked it. The spices were good, but would be better on chicken. For Easter I made this bread and it was awesome. I loved it. I might make it again with a sprinkle of chocolate chips :) but it was really good as it was and low-fat!

I'm not sure if it was the daniel fast, or just other stuff in life going on, but I have been super unmotivated lately. I have been exercising probably 5x a week since I was 15 and I have NOT been able to get out of bed and do it for weeks. So finally this morning I got going. Hopefully I can get back into my habit. I really love exercising and it is a part of me, so I want to be more steady again.

Thanks for the workout this morning Jillian.

Last night, as I was putting away the clean bowls I checked the moth trap, and yes, another moth body was in there. I am about giving up with these moths. My food check last week revealed nothing, I don't know where their secret lair is!?! I'm just giving up and accepting the fact that I must be eating moth eggs. Gross.

Daniel Fast day 17

Last night's dinner was SOOOO good. I made another of my vegetarian friend's recipies. Vegetarian Tortilla Soup. YUM!!! So good. I topped it with some cubed avocado and paired it with a salad and it was perfect. Really delicious. I had 2 big bowls!

Daniel Fast day ?

So one week left of the Daniel Fast and I'm finally starting to cook some good stuff. Although it felt like all I did yesterday was cook and wash dishes! For lunch I made Mujadara, pretty much Lebanese lentils and rice, it was pretty good. The best part was the blackened onions on top.

For dinner I made one of our favorites the black bean butternut squash burritos. I had to eat mine without the slice of cheese, but it was still super good, as usual.

I also made Lemon Chia Seed Muffins. These were super delicious. Moist, lemoney, seedy :)

I went grocery shopping and I could not believe how much prices are going up on everything. Natural PB $3.70?? It was always $2. Even that lemon extract was like $4.79 for a teeny 1 ounce. Luckily Meijer had it on sale for $2.50. I should probably go get another as I anticipate making these muffins quite often! Anyway, everythings so expensive. Not everyones getting raises grocery store pricing people.

As I was putting away groceries I did another quick check of the moth trap and low and behold ANOTHER MOTH body was in there!! So I again pulled everything out and no sign of anything. Everything we have is now either in a jar or a canned good, so who knows where they are lurking. The only thing not in a container are our tortilla chips, but since we plow through those I don't think that would even matter. It is just a mystery!?!
